December 2012.
Around Christmas time there are several Holiday parties and family get-togethers to celebrate the New Year and Christmas and typically the most appropriate attire is velvet pants or dress with red, black, white, gold, or navy blue colors. Every time around this time of year, my mother would dress my sister and I identically, and every time I would complain and pout throughout the night. This particular holiday, I decided to change that, so I went online to my favorite store and looked at the dresses they were selling. I found a navy blue, velvet sequin cocktail dress for $20, and it was perfect. Later that night I called my mother and asked her if I could buy it (of course just turning 13, I didn't have money of my own) and she rejected me. I pleaded and pleaded, but she wouldn't budge so I decided to take a huge risk and bargain with her. I told her that if she bought me the dress, I'd babysit without complaints for the entire next year. It was rough, and she took advantage of that offer, and the dress wasn't worth it. Moral of the story: a $20 dress is not worth an entire year of free babysitting.
